such a fun watch!! engaging and and well written. no real notes here. i managed to spend an hour on the stair master watching this, and it felt like only 15 mins!

i finally understand why this movie makes people cry. “we mothers stand still so our daughters can look back to see how far they’ve come” decimated me.
it was an enjoyable watch, i do wish that there was a deeper exploration of patriarchy, but obviously this couldn’t happen because of mattel’s involvement. i felt like barbie still had to pander to ken’s ego which really irked me.
i wasn’t exactly expecting some groundbreaking feminist commentary, it is still a feature-length advertisement for barbie after all. but i still think it could’ve been a bit more sincere.
visually beautiful, and a powerful metaphor for how being closeted is akin to suffocating. that is not lost on me - whilst i am cis i did grow up deeply closeted. this movie is important for obvious reasons, trans representation being a particularly massive one. but i feel like the execution wasn’t the greatest.
i just felt like it took far too long to get into the ‘meat’ of the story. and when it did, it felt rushed. 90 mins…
