i finally understand why this movie makes people cry. “we mothers stand still so our daughters can look back to see how far they’ve come” decimated me.
it was an enjoyable watch, i do wish that there was a deeper exploration of patriarchy, but obviously this couldn’t happen because of mattel’s involvement. i felt like barbie still had to pander to ken’s ego which really irked me.
i wasn’t exactly expecting some groundbreaking feminist commentary, it is still a feature-length advertisement for barbie after all. but i still think it could’ve been a bit more sincere.
