    At the same time that it portrays characters rarely seen in cinema, Girlhood transcends all geographic and racial boundaries and speaks to the true experience of teenage girlhood and the strong female bonds formed within it. While a festival hiccup caused the original DCP print to be sent without subtitles (the audience viewed a backup online version), the visuals of this film -- bold colors, costumes, groupings vs. isolations -- would have more than sufficed to convey its point. Along with Water Lilies and Tomboy, Girlhood can well be considered the final presentation in Céline Sciamma's unofficial film trilogy.
