Captain America needs to uncover a secret government coup plot and save a lot people. Begin the movie with a secret mission that’s true purpose is later revealed as a plot point, add a former black widow, make Cap work underground then have him say he’s not gonna fight the big bad anymore. What do you get? A Walmart version of CA: The Winter Soldier. Now mix in an abundance of cheesy jokes and some cool CGI and it’s a Chucky Cheese version.

Let’s be honest, the sequel was never gonna be better than the original. Extremely entertaining and will be rewatched, but man do I hope there’s a 4+ hr extended cut. This was the right story for the sequel but it’s just missing a lot of backstory to drive the vengeance theme that the original thrived on.
