I was left rather bewildered by this film after my first viewing, but after sitting with it for awhile and seeing it in a theater rather than at home I can confidently say The Substance has blown me away.

Incredibly well written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, beaming with iconic moments and storytelling. You can feel a genuine passion for filmmaking in every moment on screen, in every sound effect, in every camera choice. Such strong acting too. It’s still…

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the only reason this film got good reviews is because people are desperate to watch new movies.

Charlie Kaufman’s latest film is boring, utterly dull, and without a single ounce of entertainment. One of the only times I’ve ever watched a film and wanted to continuously stop watching it.

A half star is rare from me, but I awarded it to this film for its pretentiousness. I liked Justice League better than this. JUSTICE LEAGUE

I was actually an intern for the production company behind this film during the writing process back when I was studying in LA and it was so amazing to see this finally come from script to screen.

Sitting in on writing sessions with the actual director and producers was a very interesting and insightful experience, and to see the work that was finally done to create this film is commendable.

Great direction, score, and well cast!
