  I saw this in a theater, which helped its ho-hum story from making it a complete drag. Some nice musical numbers, visually impressive design, and strong acting are strengths. At times I believe I was the only one in the theater laughing at the jokes of a film that I myself thought lacked enough good laughs for a kind of its genre. Younger viewers may lack the vocab to say “dragged” or “tedious,” but to me that’s the plot in the middle of this film.

  So many classic lines. This is a film that sort of had me scratching my head when I first watched it at Isla Vista Theater in 1997. Now, I look forward to watching it every year. “Gentlemen, there’s no fighting in here…”
