I’ve never once been in the camp of this film being a masterpiece. The best scene is the pinball tournament, the rest, as Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune said, “a disappointing, slapdash pictorialization of the fine music of The Who with no cinematic flow.” I do like to pretend Jack Nicholson used his role in this film to inform the character of Jack Torrance in The Shining. Tina Turner delivers an amazing performance as well.
