Eraserhead 1977
RIP DAVID LYNCH.
His debut feature-length film is rough around the edges but still immensely watchable on the umpteenth viewing. Themes of parenthood, marriage, domesticity, and industrial malaise abound; some of these would become mainstays of his oeuvre. Beautifully shot and full of ingenious props and striking set designs, it's practically a fully formed artistic vision right out of the gate, with just enough amateurish charm to keep it honest.
