This was a fine movie -- nothing special. But Nic Cage is sincerely a charming actor and I loved the references to Wild at Heart.

The Cranes Are Flying 1957
This film beautifully captures the realities of wartime for both civilians and soldiers. Darkness — and the suddenness of it all — is neither shied away from nor romanticised. A deeply moving exploration of hardship, cruelty and the strength of human beings, and with incredible (revolutionary!) cinematography and imagery as well. Left me in tears but I feel grateful for it!
