"you make me think humanity's not a complete waste."
a really charming movie about someone who's become so detached from people that he quite literally lives on an island in the middle of nowhere — learning to trust and to believe in a brighter future in the hands of people who have the ability to learn and change. that war is not the end, or even the beginning, of progress. about the important and unspoken roles women play during conflict, the unnecessary violence of man, and all someone needs is chance to be creative. also, the protagonist is a pig, which doesn't even matter!

i think i would have received this movie with a lot more enjoyment and less criticism if people didn't sell it as a cinema revolutionary peak feminist story when it really... isn't. a very sweet and very fun film! while it did include an important conversation, the level in which it was explored and handled was not different to that of a disney channel original. ken was very entertaining, but that also, is a criticism here.

a film inherently about someone tackling the effects of abandonment fighting his way into the heart of someone who fears attachment to anything that could potentially leave. it's this grey area of mentorship and fatherhood but also just the personal acceptance of time and differences with the people you meet, and the people you'll need to let go. i am so normal about this movie.
