I've seen this movie a half dozen times, and it never fails to disappoint. If you haven't seen it, drop everything to watch it. It is almost "inconceivable" how iconic and fun this classic turned out to be.
A cutesy Disney movie for those looking for a nostalgic blast to the past. Although the dynamics and characterizations were cheesy and overdone, the movie accomplishes everything it sets out to do.
The Sixth sense provides impressive insights into the role of trauma-induced fear and the difficulty of the journey to overcome it. I especially appreciated the symbolism of the color red throughout the film as a connection to death. From the doorknob to the tent to the color of Kyra's mother's dress, the connection is astoundingly clear and brilliant.
I came into this movie thinking I would love it; turns out, in the quest to eradicate stereotypes about women, the movie reinforced stereotypes about mental health. Depression Barbie: "She wears sweatpants all day and night." Not all people struggling with depression show it through their clothes. Some do not show it at all. Aside from stereotype reinforcements, the movie largely felt like an anti-men commentary rather than a pro-feminist illustration.
