felt a bit dated in execution but the movie didn’t suffer for it in my opinion, gene hackman is a standout for very earnestly playing his role as he sits sort of on the line of being more aware of his place in southern society while simultaneously not being necessarily as blatantly anti racist as a 2025 audience might want. Really good complex characters, would have loved to see more about the Black communities outside of the white perspective
