I’ve watched this several times now and I suppose that warrants 5 stars, especially for two hours of just talking. This is the first dialogue-heavy fîlmmè I saw and it had me hooked. Julie Delpy is the quintessential sexy French woman and then there’s Ethan Hawke… just look at and listen to her the entire movie and you’ll love it!!!

Matilda 1996
I watched this at least a dozen times as a child the same age as Matilda. I watched it for the first time as someone with a fully formed frontal cortex and I enjoyed this a LOT. Lavender’s raspy little voice, Matilda’s gentle lisp, forever etched in my mind ears. Ms Trunchbull is such an asshole. Is this a John Williams score? Miss Honey 🥺
