The Purple Rose of Cairo 1985
This one hit me way harder than I thought it would. The way it handles the idea of fantasy relationships vs real ones is so moving and relatable that it kinda hurts. Gordon Willis photography was superb as usual, and that score is so fun and perfect. Also great to see pre-Dumb and Dumber Jeff Daniel’s killing it in his dual role, and Mia Farrow was great too. Another banger from Woody!

How tf is this the same director that made Memories of Murder and Parasite?? Vapid, boring commentary on capitalism, with writing that rivals one of the especially bad marvel movies like captain marvel or age of ultron or something. Mark Ruffalo is pretty funny at times, and it’s cool that Pattinson is getting to explore comedic roles, but I’m hoping he gets better opportunities to do so cuz wtf is this. Also can’t believe that Darius Khondji shot this and it looks mid at best. What a profound disappointment. Christ
