Unfortunately, it’s what you would expect from an American, mainstream production trying to tackle political issues.
Barbie, tries to negotiate patriarchy and its effects on men and women alike, but to do that it needs to use a filmmaking tool, an imaginary world. That’s because, it is unable to discuss about these issues in the real world. That would require analyzing the mechanisms that create and maintain power dynamics in our society.
