    Possession

    ★★★★

if on the silver globe suggested a worrying tension bubbling underneath the surface of a creativity whose expansiveness ran up against the boundaries of the polish ministry of culture and art, possession is an inversion of that creativity into a destructive force that swallows the domestic world of mark and anna whole.

notwithstanding that my screening was interrupted by a visit to the ER, this film immersed me in an interesting place mentally. it takes a lot of work and time to heal that younger part of yourself—at times it can feel like nothing will ever change. the Dawn Weiners of the world deserve to feel the love that they need, that someone is on their side, that they can make mistakes and feel understood. it’s an unfair world when some people have to work so hard to experience love so conditionally, if not just a pale reflection or a displacement of another’s wants and needs.

Happiness is a warm gun and everyone shoots. Just about everyone is occupied by their wants and just how much they stand in contradiction with surrounding society, let alone the people facing them. The hilarity results from seeing these desires externalized, in an almost alien language, on characters seeking to do the exact same thing but in some sharp opposition. Oftentimes the desire is just for recognition or self-recognition. Champaign for one person is another’s shit, or perhaps the former just hopes that’s champaign that they got.
