I love the visuals of the movie, as it is very aesthetically pleasing, but was this adaptation necessary? Absolutely not. 'Lolita' is a beautifully written story by Vladimir Nabokov about the tragedy of a little girl written from a pedophile's perspective. The whole point of the story is that it's told by an unreliable narrator - a very disturbed man fixated on adolescent innocence. It's supposed to be disgusting, perverted and gut-wrenching. Although when describing topics as sensitive as pedophilia or grooming, you have to be mindful. It's not a love story, it's a tragedy.
