Interesting film.
I have to admit I was pretty shocked by the nonchalance of these characters, but i was also curiously captivated to understand where that comes from and it’s value in helping us survive the suffering that life brings our way. As I watched the film I imagined myself in Nathalie’s position, and this difference between my own imagined reactions to the characters predicaments and the behaviour I witnessed on screen, created an interesting disparity that followed me throughout…
I will never watch a Netflix movie again. First, ‘Don’t look up’ and now this… Both of these films focus on an ‘important topic’, but do so with a superiority that completely lacks self awareness. Hollywood can be so full of itself, so out of touch, so dumb. An absolute waste of time- promising so much and disappointing in every single one of its promises. Half a star because some good acting.
After a long day at work and without really thinking much about it, I put this film on. The opening unfolded and I was ready to turn it off… i didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either- I just wasn’t sure I had the attention span to commit to the full thing.
But then the court room scene appeared and something about that shot; the kids squirming in their seat, the empty room, empty chairs, the old man…
