The Boy and the Heron 2023
This being one of Miyazakis lowest rated films is an absolute war crime. It's easily his most ambitious film to date. Pulling at so many powerful themes from grief, death, succession, and the afterlife, while tying them together masterfully. The animation is absolutely breathtaking and I would argue his best ever, there's a perfect blend in this film between the clean more modern look that's been in recent ghibli films and the more painted vintage looks that gives older works…
