Wow. Marvel outdid itself with this film.
As a long-time Spider-fan, I might be a bit biased, but it's been weeks since I've watched it in theaters. The afterglow has since worn off, the rose-colored glasses have been peeled from my face. And still, wow.
First off, the nostalgia factor. It was a treat to watch MY Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire, sorry about it), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), and Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) battle it out with the new crew…

I would've given Shang-Chi a low rating due to the plot, particularly Wenwu's unrealistic relentlessness for the elixir. I also felt that Awkwafina's character was an unnecessary and fairly ineffective foil; I only really laughed at the "Hotel California" gag.
However, Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh are forces to be reckoned with, as always — it was a smart move to bring these Hong Kong actors further into the Western limelight.
Additionally, one must credit the team for spinning the Orientalist…
