So grotesque, so gorgeous, and while people will compare it to The Substance (understandably) it has more heart.

Such a good balance of characters and their motivations, constantly kept me on my toes. Hewed to the classic story and it worked well.

The Norwegians in Sweden(landia) were just so perfectly "bønder i byen", you can't help but laugh at the sendup of Swedish courtly culture.

    The practical effects!! Incredible.

Incredible score!! Vilde Tuv I'll love your flute forever.

Undeniable visual influence from the beloved TV version we get every year at xmas here in Norway.

Also Ane Dahl Torp can get it 🥵

If I wasn't in the midst of a divorce that resembles to some extent (minus children thank God) this one I'd probably give this a four star. But because I am in this process currently all I could think at the end is I wish it was sadder. I didn't need the sort of hopeful reconciliation scene between the two of them. DTMFA.

This film also has the distinction of being the movie my husband saw on his first date…

I loved Hereditary, and Midsommar is one of my all time favorite movies. So believe me when I say this was one of the worst films I've ever seen :(

First hour: 5 stars. Amazing, scary, picture book black and white vibes.

Next 75 minutes: Van Helsing overly explained adventure.

Could have used more sex and less exposition! I love Eggers so much but it just didn't land for me. Friedrich and Anna's whole plot line felt so unnecessary (although those girls were total scene stealers).

Lily Rose Depp was made for this role though. Goth queen.

Also it looked like Wisburg was the same city set as Muppet Christmas Carol. Please confirm.
