  It’s a morbidly obese torso plopped atop the legs of a 1.5 year old child. It was built to collapse from its largesse. A must see in a theater.

  Just didn’t work for me. Saw it by myself at home and I think really would’ve benefitted by seeing it with a larger audience. It has Mel Brooks sensibilities without the comedic talent. An acid-dripped Barbie without the fun.

  Something that could never be made today. Incredible camerawork. Much more focused on the scene than anything else. The story is uncomplicated in terms of plot contrivances in a really refreshing way.

  A Rosetta Stone for what gets Johnson’s imagination whirring and his approach to genre filmmaking. He seems to love playing with “hard” sets of rules. It feels a tad not ready for prime time and crossed the border into “too clever by half” territory. Still an enjoyable con man movie that tries everything—sometimes succeeding and sometimes not.

  Really good performances, especially by Weisz. I have a soft spot for the score, which is playful with creeping melancholy. Would definitely watch a sequel/companion movie starring Rinko Kikiuchi’s character.
