  Loved the cinematography and score. Visually beautiful, loved the nighttime scenes that were literally in darkness, faces illegible. Felt indulgent as a quintessential crime movie, sunglasses, swagger, guns. Bad script though, characters were only interesting cuz of the actors' skill. Watched this w my dad who had been telling me about it for ages, he did preface it tho by saying there r flaws -- mostly Mann's treatment of women. quite right, none of them believable humans (except maybe charlene),…

  such an interesting take on documentary and ethnography. really impressive. documentary is a kind of fiction anyway, leaning into narrative and acting is kind of even more real/an acknowledgement of what it is to tell a story. such strong characters, and the end of the film was really well-handled. an inspiration
