As a cis woman i cant decide wether something is good/bad trans representation, however its clear to me that the director of this movie sees trans people/transitioning as something satirical. lumping breast augmentation and nose jobs in with bottom surgery, or having Castro physically recoil at the effects that hormones have had on Pérez’s body, or when Emilia’s daughter says she smells “like a man.” It all feels so alienated and disrespectful.

this is an recurring problem i have with male directors/men in general depicting prostitution. It felt more like watching a male insert film about having a sex worker rather than Anora’s story. Mikey delivered an amazing performance and deserves all the praise for it but i still find this movie to be incredibly disappointing
