Beauty and the Beast 1946
the bewitching fantastical castle scenes postponed my suicide. normie scenes with loser family were too long imho. unless im looking at intense sparkles on horses or the piercing eyes of monsters im not interested. also the beast performance was so otherworldly and engaging? i could feel yearning intrigue mystery allure everything from the gentle gaze and slow gestures.

Don't Step Out of the House 2009
maybe my favorite short film of all time. it keeps you on your toes for its entire 40something minute run. an ingenious allegory of post colonialism, particularly what it means to live in confusion and fear (comparably). south and north korea living in poverty, calling for help but america never showing up, young and weak against neighboring international superpowers constantly striving to control our tiny peninsula. the child actors are pretty awkward and in no way are they professionals but…

im so sorry king but this was pure torture. i do not want to sit and watch any of the musical sequences again. too much repetition. it just goes to show when music is integral to the story but is poorly executed, everything crumbles. i do value what the movie was referencing and attempting to do, and i always enjoy yuasa’s “ugly-chic” drawings.
