Wow deeply depressing! I like Spielberg when he’s dark, cynical and despondent like this. I avoided this for years thinking it was a big dumb nostalgia mashup.
Ok stick with me here but it made me think of how Polanski did Tess, a movie about a woman whose life is ruined by sexual assault, after he himself committed sexual assault. And by that I mean, this feels like Spielberg exploring the damage done by himself and his generation. That they…
