I love this movie. Ostensibly, it's about rogue AI gaining control of a digital world with real-world consequences. Wrapped around this conceit is a coming-of-age story and a story about family. The combination of all these elements helps to belie the fantastical with grounded. The far-flung concepts in 2009 may seem less so these days, but there's an element of timelessness to this film that is incredibly appealing. No matter what may be happening in the world, life and death, growing up, and family struggles and celebrations will continue to ground us in the present.
An easy 5/5 from me.
