kosovo, my broken motherland, is full of broken families like this one. full of Herculean mothers, too.
I cried the most at the orange red jars with green lids, the family asleep in one room on mattress pads, the lace curtains, the deepest red peppers, the stone village-scape, the untranslatable phrases, the elder woman’s humor-wisdom, and even at that one ringtone.
