  For myself, this may be Miyazaki’s finest work. It is in part due to my nostalgia for the film as a child, which I must’ve first watched when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I recall how haunting the music near the end was for me. As many know, Miyazaki was far ahead of his time with his emphasis on environmental themes and female protagonists that broke the status quo, especially that of Hollywood and Western media. Nausicaä is beyond courageous, progressive, and perhaps symbolic of a human doom where the Earth finally responds to our selfishness against it.
