Whiplash 2014
In honor of Whiplash being on Netflix, I watched it for perhaps the fifth time. I was always on the Whiplash to Black Swan comparison train, but after this most recent watch, I think I disagree. In Black Swan, Natalie Portman’s character is trying to achieve perfection. I can appreciate a war film as much as the next person, and, in terms of classic war film needs, this movie fulfilled. Attractive army men (2/3 Hemsworth brothers + Milo Ventimiglia), comedic relief (Russell Crowe’s character’s blatant disrespect for authority in a hilariously crude manner), as well as heartfelt human connection between the squadron as well as the drone operators behind the scenes.
