  so this is the first orson welles film i’ve seen (i think) so maybe i don’t have a great basis for comparison, but i thought it was fantastic. the use of light in many of the shots was beautiful, particularly the tenser moments between loretta young and orson welles, and the plot was compelling though nothing life changing.

  but if anything really carried this, it was the acting. welles and young excelled in that ‘evil male manipulator/naive wife’ dynamic which…

  truly awful. i loved it.

  it was so very low budget, written like a high school theatre project, and about as subtle as an 80s anti-drug psa. and i won’t even get into the acting.

  but the score was good*, it was never boring, and the overall message was surprisingly feminist, whether intentionally or not. 

  and even with all that aside, nothing is more entertaining than a movie where apparently nobody ever vetoed anything.
