i was expecting a love story, instead i saw the beauty of reality, the realization that ending up together is not the only end to a story, it’s only one of them. not everything has to be a love story, sometimes the greatest story is just the act of letting go. they weren’t written in the stars, they weren’t meant to be, they were meant to love and let go and remember each other for years to come. there is just something so poetically satisfying in that which makes this movie so heartbreaking yet pleasing at the same time.

how does wong kar-wai make each individual puff of smoke so poignant?? with every scene coming straight out of my pinterest board and the stories from the most polar-opposite yet incredibly similar characters tying together is a skill he has mastered. i look forward to rewatching this in the near future.
