It's crazy that the trailers are hiding that this is a musical.

I was originally just going to write something like, "guys will see Dune: Part Two in IMAX and just think 'hell yeah,'" but this is really such a monumental achievement. Clearly a spicy major work.

For all of its influence and sociopolitical complexity, a thing that sets Herbert's seminal novel apart from later chosen one Hero's Journey narratives is the level of dread and lack of cathartic…

The premise may suggest a rote prestige melodrama, but Celine Sciamma complements traditional formal aesthetic with a vivid and contemporary thoughtfulness.

A masterfully-crafted drama that is both modest and devastating, classic and modern, quiet and hypnotic. By the time it reaches its unforgettable final shot, it affirms just why it will go down as one of 2019’s best and most affecting films.

I was planning on making a funny joke about how I’d actually rate this 9½/10… but no, I’d probably give it an 8½/10. Makes sense that it’s every director’s favourite movie though! And final thirty minutes are dazzlingly good!

    Great cinematography, bella cinematografia.

Bong Joon Ho demonstrates his commitment to anticapitalist praxis by making a movie that will cause Warner Bros to lose 100 million dollars.

(I had a great time. Pattinson had an even better one. The WB execs at the test screening probably did not. So funny that Bong’s English-language films are weirder than his Korean ones — he’s much closer to Okja-mode than Parasite here. Also Nausicaä vibes!)
