It has been a depressing finish to 2924 as far as cinema goes…little has grabbed my attention and I seem bored with everything. So, the new film from Justin Kurzel was highly anticipated. There was a problem though. It was almost impossible to see! I was in London over Christmas and screenings for this film were erratic, sporadic and downright awkward.
I finally caught it at Picturehouse Central yesterday afternoon and it seems that many others had had the same…
An abject serial killer/ police procedural whose biggest mystery is how it ever got made…perhaps a tax write off? SLJ is a Chicago cop called in by police in Edinburgh to help on a series of murders similar to ones he investigated years before. I say Edinburgh but all you see of it is the same establishing shot of Princes Street otherwise it’s not beside an anonymous police building, a hotel bar and a bit of countryside. It has cost…
I wanted to like this more but it didn’t make itself appealing. It’s good for the first half building up tension but one the face huggers are let loose it descends into a greatest hits movie with situations, dialogue and even characters being resurrected for a long drawn out series of false climaxes.

How do you pronounce the title of this movie?
It’s a direct follow on from Godzilla v King Kong and chucks everything including the kitchen into the mix. The story is told by some of the clunkiest exposition I’ve seen in years and the CGI generated creatures have a far wider emotional range than the wooden Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens!
At least it only lasted only just over a hour and a half - I didn’t wait to see the end credits!!
Now that’s enough.
