The Thing 1982
Great movie. Not my favorite though, I think because this seems to be a lot of people's metrics on what a horror movie "Should be"
Unknowable monster, practical effects, which all work to its benefit but I'd rather watching horror be a case-by-case experience and judging things on their own merit as opposed to comparing something to something else. It's tough to explain, honestly, I have no reason to have to annoyance towards this film that I do.
It's my personal bias that keeps this from being an all-time favorite, but by all means watch it. It's a classic

This goes in that camp with Texas Chainsaw massacre for movies that did things that predate the movies that people remember
Like the first person camera here is legit really tense with how they use it. Ironically it’s what spoils the movies plot twist.
It surprisingly feels hitchcockian at times just with certain shots and dialogue. Psycho, rear window, and birds vibes are abound.
Also this movie might have the most chilling shot rivaling the ring and the exorcist.
Freakin classic man.
