A beautifully-shot, well-written entry that breathes new life into the franchise.

An impressive directorial debut that stumbles in a few key areas. The character development and plot revelations feel rushed. Also, unlike other films in this genre such as Alien, Predator, or even the recent NOPE, where the audience gets to see the impressive creature design in all its glory during the final act, The Watchers offers only a brief glimpse from afar, which is sure to disappoint many horror fans. I can't help but feel that this would have worked much better as a mini-series where every condensed plot and character element would have had a bit more breathing room.

A visually-pleasing, entertaining thriller that continually ratchets up the suspense while injecting dark comedy and social satire into what is otherwise a fairly straight-forward horror plot. The experience ends up being more than the sum of it's parts even though, like a thin slice of butter hitting a hot skillet, it fizzles out somewhat quickly from memory after viewing.
