I am almost always too generous with my ratings, so just shave a star off everything to translate my enthusiasm into actual taste.

Little Miss Marker 1934
This movie is a little slow to start, but once it gets going it really goes — comedy, music, drama, it’s got it all. Not hard to see why Shirley Temple was an instant sensation, and Adolphe Menjou is the perfect foil for her.

Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell 1951
A suitable conclusion to the Belvedere trilogy. While not as sharply comedic as the previous films, this one has more heart. Its origins in a non-Belvedere play mean the character feels a little discontinuous with how he’s portrayed in the previous films, but Clifton Webb makes it work.

Diana: The Musical 2021
I regret not seeing this in a room full of people because it cries out for communal experience.
