  first the piano teacher, now babygirl- a reminder that we should probably let out our repressed desires before they spiral into something covertly freakier… to an extreme. since these two films are thematically similar, i can't help but compare them. babygirl was way too literal, yet... not gonna pretend i didn’t eat this up.

  “how can it ever be a weakness to simply be yourself?”

  so many moments resonated with me on such a deeply korean level (society-wise) that left me unexpectedly emotional. the bond between a queer man, constantly erased and denied by society, and a young woman in her twenties, navigating relentless misogyny in a big city of seoul, felt raw and authentic. 

  while the society around them remains unforgiving, their connection offers a rare refuge, a space where they can live…

  lowkey reminded me of fiona apple’s paper bag which i listened to an unhealthy amount in high school lmao. also, made me think about how it’s often the quirky, unexpected little moments that bring life to my days. such a hopelessly and simultaneously hopeful lovely film.

  a dark, twisted satire of middle-class american society, where the belief that life must be filled with happiness warps their desires. the film disturbingly exposes the unsettling lengths people will go to in their pursuit of this illusion, which inevitably relies on inflicting violence on others.
