Instinct 2019
This movie was everything I hoped Babygirl would be - and more. Set against the backdrop of a rehabilitative prison system, Instinct explores a subtler yet paradoxically more overtly violent power struggle between its main leads, leaning far deeper into the thriller genre than its newer counterpart. Unlike Romi, whose struggles with her unorthodox sexual preferences serve as the focal point in Babygirl, Van Houten’s character feels more grounded, fleshed out, and complex, with her true motivations remaining intriguingly ambiguous until the climactic final scene. Will be looking forward to more of Rejin’s work in the future
