Picnic at Hanging Rock 1975
The themes that interested me most while watching this film were the "economic" and theological. These two themes seemed to twine together into an allegory of apotheosis in the context of the domestic management, cultivation, and redistribution of children--mainly but not exclusively young girls--and women on a colonized landscape alternating between Eden and Moses in the desert. In some sense the theological, "horror" and sexual parallels seem to indicate how an encounter with the sexually and culturally repressed or disavowed…
