I hadn’t seen this movie but in the first grade I was allowed to watch clips of Michelle pfeiffer in it and was obsessed. I was catwoman for Halloween and this came with a wip. This is what I’m always saying about how I felt like a sexy child. When I would be sent to time out in my bedroom I would crack the wip over and over again until it had soothed me and I could return to the apartment at large. Really fun. Gorgeous intro and Q&A by Laura Mulvey in person on using archival materials against the grain!! but purloined mother's letters and father's footage aside,,,, this movie devastates ..

Review at the behest of Chance:
Wes Andersen is at his least emotionally engaging and most politically confused here. After episodes 6 and 7 I found myself walking around my apartment without direction, trying to articulate what I had seen, which was on the subtler side, and not being able to find that many words for it, instead just semi-consciously repeating “that was really good” to myself. There are commentaries I could probably make about it regarding reflexivity, desire, process, Frenchness etc etc but I don’t really want to. Maybe this is a film (because really, it’s not TV) that exists on an artistic plane, or a spiritual plane, not to be fully articulated.
