Classic, dull, gloomy Pennsylvania. Children of immigrants sent off to war and then sing god bless America when their friend dies. It’s the beauty in irony and beauty in American despair that allows this movie to sustain 3 hours.
Robert fucking De Niro man. He is able to capture the purity, humility and loyalty that comes with being an immigrant’s son. But gosh the way he looks at Meryl is raw and subtle, makes me wanna whisper in his ear how much of a stud he is.
