Okay so basically (sorry) I’ve never read the book but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
Major complaints: the accents, the pacing, the “three years later” holy smokes
Major pluses: a real tearjerker and the major beats of the story come across pretty good. Thematically, I’m picking up what you’re putting down D. J. Caruso
A lot better than I thought it was going to be! The soundtrack was great and Ross at the end was by FAR the best part. That scene in the Indian Ocean was fantastic.

The only thing that I didn’t really LOVE in this movie was the fact that so much was dedicated to setting up the next one. Stand-alone movies leave you feeling like you’ve had a full meal - I can’t help but feeling that this is a starter.
That being said, I can’t say that I “miss the days when movies were just stand-alone” because that is simply not the case, for two reasons. (1) I love…
