  It is important to emphasize that the Shakespearean legacy in Kurosawa is remarkable. Throne of Blood was a watershed in the way in which Shakespeare's reinterpretation of the myth of the Japanese ages gave life to the best films of its genre. RAN is no exception, the reinterpretation of King Lear into a Japanese war epic demonstrates the cinematic ambition that Kurosawa handles and the sublime way in which he brings together these two visions of the same patriarch, leaves us satisfied and perplexed. The meticulous handling of the sequences, colors and epic battle should be considered as a global reference for all epic war films.
