dakota fanning’s casting (and her historical lack of acting ability) here mostly works bc she is the meant to be the awkward overzealous American other. She is incredibly unconvincing as a wicked witch but she is incredibly convincing as a greedy American woman which is perhaps the one of the more wicked things this world has to offer.
