Going into this I expected a dramatic thriller in the same vein as parasite. Instead I was shown a film focused on satire and dark humor. It's surreal, its pacing and tone can be jumbled and all over the place, and there are certain elements that I wish received more focus. The side characters' performances sometimes felt a little flat and yet the movie is still an imaginative, fun time.
Accept the movie for what it is and without any unfair expectations. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Unfortunately, my theater experience didn't do this movie any favors. Searching to find an open seat on an available theater, having to settle for the very left side of a theater, and wondering if the audio was bad for everyone else or just me kinda took away from my enjoyment.

This movie does a great job of capturing "otherness" for your average suburban Asian-American kid. Whether you're trailing behind friends while walking around or academically, telling stupid stories you probably shouldn't have told, etc. it's infested with awkward moments that definitely made me squirm.
And yet, because of that realistic and well-done cringe, watching this movie helped me feel heard and less alone in my experiences. It's inspiring to see Didi do things I wished I had done…
