the main value of this film is in its portrayal of gritty post-soviet 1990s st petersburg. the locations are great, especially the streets and apartments. i really liked the dark, dirty staircase of a stalinist building where danila's brother lived.
the acting felt unnatural at times (except for the main character), and the film is definitely quite controversial, which is a shame.
and that guinea pig deserved better.
