One of the best Sky shows I’ve seen put out. Propulsive pacing and momentum, complex characters, genuinely surprising twists (especially in episode 10). Blending classical assassin tropes such as exotic locals, attention to detail, political intrigue and slick action with far more standard British investigative drama side such as tense work environments, procedural detail and obsessive lead detectives. Beautifully shot, with some particularly great colour work in the 10th episode and some brutally loud and crisp sound the entire experience is so worth the binge watch.
An interesting one. Bolstered considerably by a sharp, brutal and engrossing opening as well as decent performances from Woodley and Mendelssohn the film attempts to tell a complex story about trauma, responses to it and the chaos and pointlessness of modern life. A very creepy and atmospheric remake. Most were very well done, the creature design of Count Orlok and the sound design of his voice and breathing being particular highlights. Blending elements of the original film and the Dracula Novel, this film weaves a dark, gothic nightmare filled with literal nightmares, violence and blood. I cannot say enough things about this film - easily my favourite watch of the year and one that I regret not watching earlier in the 10 years it’s been out. Not only is the film a fantastic exploration of creativity and passion and the personal cost that can accompany the chase for recognition that can come with that but it is also a wonderfully competent family drama and just makes you feel amazing when you watch it.
