I mean, it’s alright. Nothing to write home about. A few good laughs, a few good scares. There is some cool camera work and the first third or so sets up a pretty compelling story, but it sort of dissolves into something a lot less satisfying about halfway through. I think there’s something to be said about the different perspectives between men and women in horror films or in real life situations like the one we bear witness to.
This feels like two different movies stitched together. A touching look at an unlikely friendship between two incredibly charismatic people interspliced by a pretty run of the mill rundown of Ali’s boxing career and political controversies. The heart and soul of this lies in the archival footage of Dick and Muhammad, as well as Dick’s personal anecdotes. A documentary that is weighed down by too many talking heads trying to say too much about a man whose life story could fill a dozen different movies. This would have been much more powerful had they stuck to the initial premise. Still worth a watch.
