Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 1999
The way the story twists from broad comedy to tragedy is jarring. Almost has the atmosphere of a Julie Taymor movie. The most successful parts of this movie are the pod race and the duel of the fates. But the parts that really work are few and far between. Still, as an aspect of movie culture, it’s been around now for more than 25 years. Darth Maul and Naboo Star-Fighters are today, older than the Millennium Falcon and Han Solo were the day The Phantom Menace came out.
