Yankee Doodle Dandy 1942
So, I didnt realize how talented James Cagney was, knowing him mainly as a gangster. His singing, dancing and snappy delivery were the high point of the film. My wife just brought up a good point, the sets and costumes were also impressive. The show truly lost me when what appeared to be freed slaves singing “his truth is marching on” while seeming to worship the Lincoln memorial……

Ok, so I didn’t realize how talented James Cagney was. I really only knew him from his Gangster roles.
Singing, dancing and delivering snappy dialogue was the one redeeming quality in this film. Well, my wife just raised a good point, the sets and costumes were also expressive. The film honestly lost me when freed slaves singing “his truth is marching on” while seeming to worship the Lincoln memorial…..
